Get Off the Fence & Say His Name

A conversation for business leaders on how to stand up for your faith in your workplace. My friend Jasmine Sneed from the Frederick Rescue Mission only spoke for about 5 minutes at our recent National Day of Prayer event - but it was POWERFUL. And It turns out, the Lord has me focused on a very similar thrust. So when I shared this all with Ali Berger from ALLAUR, she said “Hey, let’s do a zoom with Jasmine.” Great idea! Enjoy.

  • My Testimony of Learning to Dream Again

My Testimony of Learning to Dream Again

I never DREAMED of being an author. I DREAMED of being a rock star.

Most people don't know, I ended up being in a band for a season.

But, in terms of ultimate purpose, it's like God did the band for me just to bless me...

God breathed newness into my dream of being a rockstar and used that season to fuel starting Yakabod. And now, giving me a platform as an author...

The call to be an author is for Him to use me to bless/reach/influence others. Not that the former (being in a band) didn’t have an impact, but that was not the primary purpose.

How to Navigate Your Own Weariness

In this series we've discussed the different kinds of weariness, what causes it, and what scripture has to say about it. Now it's time to talk about how to navigate weariness according to who God is and His will for our lives.

  • Weariness in Scripture

    Weariness in Scripture

I've been feeling it. You've been feeling it. So we've been talking about it. Weariness.

We'll talk soon about solutions. Ideas for navigating your own way through it. And helping your team work through it too. But for now, we've been exploring where it comes from. Seems time to see what Scripture actually says about it.

After digging in, I found some interesting insights, and maybe a surprise twist or two. I've shared all this and more in the attached video. Have a watch - and I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

TRUE OR FALSE God and Business don't mix

I'm unpacking the statement: "God and Business don't mix."

I certainly understand if you hold the sentiment that they may not. That's largely what corporate America will tell you - that God doesn't belong in business. In some cases, your pastor may even tell you that.

I used to think that way too.

Here's my story, and why I learned to include God in my business and work-life.

  • Kingdom Business vs Christian Business

    Kingdom Business vs Christian Business

Earlier this week, I posed a question: "A Kingdom business is the same as a Christian business?" and asked for your opinions.

This question was one I had to discover for myself as I started a business of my own. I did my research, curious what my mandate was as a "Christian" starting a business. After looking at the business models of many proclaimed "Christian" businesses, I knew I was being called to something different.

I came to the understanding that a Christian is a person, but a Kingdom is a place. The Kingdom is about making the business look more like God's Kingdom. This is the journey of a building a Kingdom-minded business.

    Pissed Off On Purpose

Often times, the way you know your purpose from the Lord is based on what brings you joy. But perhaps another indicator is what triggers you – some injustice that stands out to you among all the other injustices in the world.

The Saga of the Self-Serving Shuttle Driver (Part 2)

Every business can’t be the absolute best in their market, but neither should there be participation trophies for businesses that behave badly. The whole point of a business is to serve customers. If you’re only in it for you, you don’t really have a business.

The Saga of the Self-Serving Shuttle Driver: Part 1

As a business owner who goes the extra mile to ensure customers are satisfied, even inconveniencing ourselves to make something right, it's downright frustrating to be on the receiving end of bad business. Particularly, little 'k' kingdom business – the kingdom of this world. But hey – when life gives you lemons, make a vlog, right?
