A conversation for business leaders on how to stand up for your faith in your workplace. God breathed newness into my dream of being a rockstar and used that season to fuel starting Yakabod. And now, giving me a platform as an author...
The call to be an author is for Him to use me to bless/reach/influence others. Not that the former (being in a band) didn’t have an impact, but that was not the primary purpose.

I've been feeling it. You've been feeling it. So we've been talking about it. Weariness.
We'll talk soon about solutions. Ideas for navigating your own way through it. And helping your team work through it too. But for now, we've been exploring where it comes from. Seems time to see what Scripture actually says about it.

I'm unpacking the statement: "God and Business don't mix."
I certainly understand if you hold the sentiment that they may not. That's largely what corporate America will tell you - that God doesn't belong in business. In some cases, your pastor may even tell you that.
I used to think that way too.
Here's my story, and why I learned to include God in my business and work-life.
Earlier this week, I posed a question: "A Kingdom business is the same as a Christian business?" and asked for your opinions.
This question was one I had to discover for myself as I started a business of my own. I did my research, curious what my mandate was as a "Christian" starting a business. After looking at the business models of many proclaimed "Christian" businesses, I knew I was being called to something different.
I came to the understanding that a Christian is a person, but a Kingdom is a place. The Kingdom is about making the business look more like God's Kingdom. This is the journey of a building a Kingdom-minded business.
Often times, the way you know your purpose from the Lord is based on what brings you joy. But perhaps another indicator is what triggers you – some injustice that stands out to you among all the other injustices in the world.
Every business can’t be the absolute best in their market, but neither should there be participation trophies for businesses that behave badly. The whole point of a business is to serve customers. If you’re only in it for you, you don’t really have a business.
As a business owner who goes the extra mile to ensure customers are satisfied, even inconveniencing ourselves to make something right, it's downright frustrating to be on the receiving end of bad business. Particularly, little 'k' kingdom business – the kingdom of this world. But hey – when life gives you lemons, make a vlog, right?
